That’s why the Council convenes and enables collaboration amongst the following stakeholders:

  • Members of technology product teams and integrity teams from both established platforms and startups;
  • Scholars and activists specialized in the interplay between technology and social cohesion;
  • Leaders from organizations experienced in bridge-building or peacebuilding, especially in highly polarized or violent societies;
  • Tech investors, philanthropic foundations, and other financiers of technology development or peacebuilding initiatives; and
  • Key figures influencing both government and tech sector policies.

Lisa is a professor at the Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame, and Senior Research Fellow at the Toda Peace Institute, where since 2015 she has been leading their technology and peacebuilding program. Lisa’s experience spans research, policy advocacy, peacebuilding practice, and teaching. The author of 11 books, Lisa’s current research focuses on the role of technology in strengthening social cohesion, with a focus on how civil society and tech companies can innovate technologies to scale social cohesion. She was the Founding Director of the Alliance for Peacebuilding’s Policy Program.

Ravi is the Managing Director of the Psychology of Technology Institute, a project of the University of Southern California Marshall School’s Neely Center. As a technologist and academic psychologist, his work focuses on improving technology’s impact on society. In his prior role at Meta, he led data science, research and product teams to improve the product’s societal impact. Ravi has coauthored dozens of highly cited empirical articles about individual values, political opinions, polarization and technology. He cofounded and was the initial Chief Data Scientist at Ranker.com.

Search for Common Ground

Lena is the Executive Director of Digital Peacebuilding at Search for Common Ground, where she supports and elevates the use of digital tools for conflict transformation across Search’s programs. She has 30 years of experience working for peaceful social change, starting as a journalist with anti-apartheid media in South Africa, and pioneering creative media tools for peacebuilding over the last two decades. She led the design of the Common Ground Approach core curriculum, and published ‘Transforming Violent Extremism: a Peacebuilder’s guide.  Lena is a graduate of Stanford University, an alumni of Amsterdam’s THNK School for Creative Leadership and Brandeis University’s fellowship on Arts and Reconciliation. In 2020, Lena gave a TEDx talk entitled ‘The Vaccine to End War’.

Africa Lead, Build Up

Caleb is the Africa Lead for Build Up. He is an explorer of digital spaces and has researched and applied various technologies to address election violence, good governance, extremism and conflict mitigation. He has worked with different peace actors across Africa to respond to violent conflict applying digital tools, including in his home country of Kenya. He has skills in social media monitoring, data and network analysis and community building. At Build Up, Caleb supports digital conflict programs, social media analysis and depolarization projects. He also dedicates time to support community based organizations  to develop infographics and data visualizations on development issues.

Jonathan Stray is Senior Scientist at Berkely’s CHAI Center, where he currently researches recommender systems and their effects.  He studies how these systems affect well-being and polarization.
